Description:

A boy runs away from home to live in the countryside with his friends, a cat and a dog. Later, he goes back to his life with his parents in the city but returns to visit on holidays. Based on the children's books by Eduard Uspenskiy.

These cartoons were immediately very popular in the USSR upon release, with many phrases from them becoming well-known. They show many details of domestic and rural life of the time. They were still popular in 2014; a public opinion poll of 1.5 thousand Russians had the "Prostokvashino" series sharing 3rd place for most beloved cartoon (20% voted for "Just You Wait", 7% for "Masha and the Bear", 5% each for "Prostokvashino" and "Shrek").
