Description:

A hunter with no rifle meets a very clever bear. Based on Nikolay Nosov's story "Three Hunters".

The story can be read here (in Russian). It is possible that the film came first and the book adaptation was published after.

The first video above is a fan-restoration that seems to be the sharpest, have the best colours and has various visual and sound defects corrected (as well as being in the original theatrical frame rate of 24fps). Of the other two videos, one is also HD but has duller colours and some visual and sound defects, while the other is the unrestored version (in the faster TV frame rate of 25fps).

The 5th film made by the duo of Pekar and Popov. Very strong influence of the American UPA "limited animation" style here. Reminds me of some other films in a similar style made around the same time (e.g. Anatoliy Petrov's First). Sort of a wacky Looney Tunes-style film made mainly to entertain and without any real lesson (unless it's "be kind to animals", I guess?). I much prefer the film they made immediately after this one (Umka), which is a real classic.
