Description:

Two boys go out swimming when the late-19th-century naval ship that they are on is anchored off the coast of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Based on Lev Tolstoy's story The Shark.

After Ekran studio was closed in 1995, Novogrudskaya kept working for Russian TV for a few more years, but not as animation director. In 2003 she then came back once more to animation with this quite unusual film. It's a fusion between puppet animation and 3D computer-generated animation. It look like CG 3D, but if you watch closely it is often a sort of layer laid over puppet animation. What is puppet-based and what is CG is often a fun puzzle to study closely.

"I knew that it was made, read about it and had been looking out for it without any success. 2 days ago I found it on Youtube while looking for other Novogrudskaya animations." -Eus347
