Description:
A colonist to another planet meets a traveling sales robot. Based on the American short sci-fi story "Company Store" (1959, Robert Silverberg), and featuring Ella Fitzgerald's song "I Can't Give You Anything But Love".
The original short story was significantly modified after the colonist asks to return his purchase; originally, he manages to make his contract with the company legally void, and teams up with the robot to teach him salesmanship. The changes seem to be in line with the different dominating ideologies of the country and time in which the film was made, compared to the short story.
The first video was scanned from 35mm film in 2023 by the RuTracker animation scanning project. It is of vastly better quality, but is missing the first 7 seconds with the title of the film. The second video is a low quality 25fps version, and its only advantage is that it has the first 7 seconds.
