Description:
Adaptation of the fairy tale by Charles Perrault. After his father's death, a country boy gets only a cat as his inheritance. But the cat is not as useless as he thinks...
An English translation of the Perrault fairy tale can be read here (Andrew Lang, 1889).
For many years, this film could only be viewed in black and white. The colour version was originally released in Aug. 1938. It was then kept in the Russian state film archive until it was scanned and restored in 2014, and premiered at the "Belyye stolby" festival on Feb 26, 2015. On April 8, 2023, Gosfilmofond uploaded it to their official Youtube channel.
