Description:
When the peasant Emelian lets a pike go free, the pike rewards him by granting him everything he wishes for. Adapted from the Russian fairy tale At the Pike's Behest.
After many amusing adventures with the Tsar, the Tsarevna and the general, Yemelya refuses the post of minister and leaves for the village with his beloved.
Awards:
XI ICF in Karlovi Vari, 1958 - 1st Prize for Best Animated Film; VCF in Kiev, 1958 - 1st Prize in the section of animated films; the Vassilyev Brothers State Prize of the RSFSR to director I. Ivanov-Vano (together with the films Lefty" and Seasons).
Of the video links above, the second is in 25fps (just over 28 minutes), while the first one seems to be in a too-fast frame rate of ~26fps (a bit under 27 minutes), but has better colours and detail. The original film release was 24fps and 29.5 minutes long.
