However, Western film critics have the tendency to interpret Soviet animation through a political lens first, and the cartoon could also be interpreted more broadly and simply as a parable about the dangers of the increasing societal coddling of children (as it is in the blurb on animator.ru), which was a trend felt not just in the USSR but in industrial societies in general.
