Description:
A satirical film for adults about family life. Daddy is an embezzler, the daughter hunts for gentlemen, the son is a blockhead and drunkard.
The offscreen text is the story of the little girl who repeats idiomatic expressions which she doesn’t understand, and these idiomatic expressions are drawn as they are represented in her mind – in the literal sense. It is one of the first films of "new", decidedly "non-Disney" Soviet animation.
It's actually the first social critical satire that depicts in a comical way day-to-day corruption and behaviour in a typical Brumberg way of doing these things; sharp criticism packed inside an innocent comedy. The film was quite popular in its day.
The subtitles have a lot of "footnotes" because the film relies so heavily on idiomatic Russian expressions.
